Tara Clark of Black Lash Makeup Design
As a child I wanted to be a makeup artist when I grew up. I did a lot of dancing when I was young and into my teenage years and one of my favourite parts of performing was doing my makeup and the makeup of others. I loved experimenting with different colours and textures and seeing how makeup could change and enhance features. When I left school I completed 2 different qualifications in Makeup Artistry but I didn’t have the maturity or know how to start my own business and I didn’t want to work in retail. I continued to do makeup for friends and family but fell into a career in Finance and makeup became more of a hobby. I decided to start my own business after the birth of my 4th child. I have 3 girls all born via IVF and when my 3rd was only 10 months old I “discovered” I was expecting my son. The desire to be more available to my children gave me the push I needed to finally make a career out of makeup. My business focuses on providing quality makeup services and products for special events, photographic work and of course Bridal. My makeup philosophy is around natural, beautiful and flattering makeup and I love that Brides, in particular, usually want to look like the most perfect versions of themselves. One of the things I love most about being in the Bridal Industry is being a small piece in a really large puzzle. It’s so special to work with a Bride and her bridal party to create a look that makes her feel both beautiful and confident and is unique to her personal style! Helping to alleviate and manage one of the major causes of stress for a bride brings me so much satisfaction and I pride myself in being able to make people feel comfortable and relaxed.
To me, my business is about more than being a Perth Makeup Artist, it’s about providing an experience. Yes, I offer affordable and professional makeup services using quality products but more importantly I offer advice and know how to ensure that you feel confident and beautiful for the most important day of your life. My personal consultation during your Bridal trial covers your skin type, how you would usually wear your makeup, your theme for the day, weather expectations, your dress and that of your bridesmaids, your flower choices and any other conceivable issue that may impact your makeup choices for the day. As a member of your Bridal team I will do my utmost to keep you calm and happy whilst ensuring your skin and makeup look perfect. I offer a guarantee that of all the things you have to worry about on your wedding day, your makeup will not be one of them!
I am my brand and I am so proud of the style of makeup I produce and being able to make people feel beautiful and confident. I’m proud of being able to help people feel at ease and relaxed so that I can work with them to produce a makeup look they love and I’m so proud of the individual service that I provide each and every one of my clients. I’m proud of staying true to my brand and helping my clients feel comfortable in their own skin. I’m also proud of not trying to be everything to everyone, so that I can really focus on the special clients who use my services and appreciate what I have to offer. The best compliment to me is when a client refers someone to me or they return, I love that people love what I do enough to tell others.
When it comes to choosing your makeup artist and look for your wedding day there is plenty of advice out there. I always suggest you choose a makeup look you feel comfortable with. If you’ve never worn a bright pink lip, perhaps your wedding day is not the day to start! Have a trial with your preferred makeup artist and agree on exactly how you want to look so you don’t have any stress on your wedding day. Use your trial to ensure you like the artist and feel comfortable and trust them, to test the wearability of your makeup and to ensure you feel happy and confident in the colours and style of the makeup. I suggest to my brides to have their trial on a day when they have something else on, like their hen’s day or engagement shoot. That way they can see how the makeup lasts throughout the day/night and they can get feedback from trusted sources. Another thing to look out for when choosing your makeup artist is what they offer in their service. Is travel extra, do you get lashes included or a lipstick or touch up kit? There are many Makeup artists in Perth these days and their services and pricing vary greatly. Make sure you are getting what is important to you for the price you are paying.
At the end of the day what’s important on the wedding day is different for every Bride. It’s imperative to ensure that you find vendors who are delivering on the things that are important to you. I believe one of the things that sets my service apart is that I have no agenda. I don’t go to a wedding wanting to showcase my skills or try new products or do the same thing that has worked on the last 10 brides before you. I like to describe my service as an experience and I am always looking for new ways to increase the value of what I provide for my clients, be it emotional or material. Every touch point you have with me is about you and how I can put your mind at ease that I will provide what you need. I treat every Bride as an individual who has different ideas and visions for her wedding day. I’m there to listen to what you want out of your makeup for your special day, to provide advice and to ensure that when you look back on your photos in 12 months, 2 years or 20 years’ time you still love what you see.
